About AL Group

Nicolaus Bunnemann is a Managing Partner of AL Group and Founder and Managing Director of Atlantic Lloyd GmbH Co. KG, the Group’s German based operating arm. Before joining the family shipping activities in 2008, Nicolaus held positions in various maritime companies in Germany and Asia, as well as within the German Navy. Nicolaus holds a Master’s Degree in Shipping, Trade and Finance, from Bayes (former CASS) Business School, London, and is currently a member of the board of the German Shipowners’ Defence Association and a DNV Germany Committee member.

Friedrich Bunnemann is a Managing Partner of AL Group and Founder and Managing Director of Asiatic Lloyd, the Group’s Singapore based operating arm. Before founding Asiatic Lloyd in 2008, Friedrich worked for various maritime companies in London, Hong Kong, Cyprus and Singapore. Friedrich holds an MBA from the University of Cape Town, GSB.

Nick Bailey joined AL Group in 2019 as Partner and Group Commercial Director and has responsibility for the commercial activities of the Group. After graduating from the University of Bristol with a joint honours degree in Economics and Economic History Nick began his shipping career working as an analyst for his family’s shipping finance business. He then worked for a major ship broker in London and Hamburg where he specialised in sale and purchase, newbuildings and structured financial transactions. Prior to joining AL Group, he was the Chief Commercial Officer of a large Greek shipowner based in London and Singapore.

Ulrich Paulsdorff joined AL Group in 2015 as Managing Director of Atlantic Lloyd and was appointed as Group Ship Management Director in 2020. Together with the Group Fleet Director, Tonci Zdunic, Ulrich is responsible for all ship management activities of the Group. He is also in charge of the Group’s internal organization. After graduating from the University of Hamburg in Economics he earned a Masters degree in Applied Economics from University of Victoria, BC. Ulrich began his shipping career in the central planning and analysis department of a major German liner company and worked for many years in its tramp division dealing with bulk carriers, product tankers and conventional reefers. He then joined a German shipowner as Managing Director for six years . Before joining AL Group, Ulrich was the joint managing director of the German branch of a large international third party ship manager.

Malte Schulte-Trux joined AL Group in 2023 as Group Financial Director and has responsibility for the financing activities of the Group. Malte has worked for over 25 years in the Banking industry and for over 20 years specialising in Ship finance. He holds a degree in Banking Management from the Frankfurt school of Business. Prior to joining the AL Group Malte was Head of Ship finance of a major British shipowner based in London where he was responsible for the financing of the fleet and other strategic financing.

Philip Pfeiffer joined AL Group in 2016 as Chief Financial Officer of Asiatic Lloyd and was appointed as Group Sustainability and Regional Finance Director in 2023. After graduating from the Ivey School of Business at Western University with an Honours Business Administration degree with distinction, Philip began his shipping career in 2006 working at a large family-owned German shipowner and shipmanager in finance controlling. Prior to joining AL Group, he headed the controlling department of a liner shipping and multimodal logistics company owned by a major French shipping and logistics player. Philip has experience in acquisition, restructuring, ship financing, fund management, joint ventures as well as the establishment of several regional branch offices across Europe and Northern Africa.

Tonci Zdunic began working for the Bunnemann family in 2003 as Chief Engineer on Vessels owned by Herm. Dauelsberg before transitioning ashore to the position of Technical Superintendent in 2007. In 2015 he joined Asiatic Lloyd in Singapore as Fleet Director, later being promoted to Group Fleet Director, making Tonci one of the current longest-serving staff in the AL Group. Together with the Group’s Ship Management Director, Ulrich Paulsdorff, Tonci is responsible for all Ship Management activities of the Company. Tonci’s academic achievements include a Master of Science in Marine Engineering from the University of Rijeka and a Postgraduate Diploma in Executive Maritime Management at World Maritime University Malmo, Sweden. He started a career on board ships of a Croatian national shipping company, later becoming Chief Engineer on a variety of vessels, including container, Ro-Ro, multipurpose vessels, and bulk carriers. He later switched role to Production Manager in a major Croatian shipyard, developing his knowledge of newbuildings, conversion and ship repair.

Lisa Boding joined AL Group in 2023 as Group Operations Director based in Singapore and is responsible for the operational activities for the Group’s fleet. A graduate from Copenhagen Business School specialising in International Business, Lisa has worked within commercial shipping since 2007 for both ship owners and operators predominantly within the dry bulk industry and has considerable experience of ship types ranging from Handy to Capesize. Prior to joining the AL Group, Lisa worked as Head of dry bulk freight operations for a seaborne energy trading company operating out of offices in both London and Singapore.
